Spain’s national pubcaster RTVE has snapped up underwater preschool series Octonauts from UK-based Silvergate Media for its Clan children’s channel, and the property also has new publishing and merchandising deals in the region.
The series has attracted a growing fan base since premiering earlier this month, and the TV launch will be followed by a publishing initiative from Editorial Planeta later this year, thanks to a deal signed by Silvergate’s Spanish agent Ypsilon.
Ypsilon is also responsible for the Clan signing and recently bringing Disney Junior on-board Octonauts for Spain and Portugal.
As for the IP’s merchandising growth across Spain, Ypsilon has secured a deal with Fisher-Price that will introduce playsets and vehicles to Spanish retailers next spring.
Licensees Montichelvo and Joumma Bags are also set to launch back-to-school merchandise in 2017.
Currently in its fourth season, Octonauts airs in 100-plus countries with broadcasters including Disney Channel (US), CBeebies (UK), ABC (Australia), TF1 (France), Super RTL (Germany) and China Central TV (CCTV).
The new deals arrive after successful TV and merchandising rollouts across China and Korea. Up next, the IP will be introduced to Russia this fall.
